South Bronx Bus Tour Raising a Stink in Hunts Point:
MOM says don’t forget your mask and No More Jails!

WHAT:
South Bronx residents sick from years of breathing the nauseating smell of sewage have organized a bus tour in order to get to the bottom of things.

This Saturday, June 9, members of the Environmental Justice Committee of Mothers on the Move (MOM) will take neighbors on a tour of the toxic riverfront site in Hunts Point to investigate the source of the smells: the New York Organic Fertilizer Company (NYOFCO) and the Dep’t of Environmental Protection’s Hunts Point Water Pollution Control Plant. In addition, the tour will view the locations for two other proposed development projects: the DEP’s construction of new 130 ft. tall waste processors (adjacent to Barretto Point Park), and the site where Mayor Bloomberg intends to build a new jail (a project opposed by MOM members and many South Bronx residents).

The bus tour will end at Barretto Point Park with a Press Conference where MOM Members will highlight the issues and present their demands to Councilwoman Arroyo, Councilwoman Palma, Congressman Serrano and other invited elected officials. Rebel Diaz, the popular Bronx hiphop duo will bless the event (www.rebeldiaz.com/).
